I grew up in the mosquito-enriched wetlands of Virginia, surrounded by the beauty and horrors of the American South. I fold that perspective into all my books. But it’s not just about humidity, far-too-much fried chicken, and eau de low tide. The nuances of living in the most ethnically diverse region of the United States is complex and throbs like an infected wound on our culture. My goal is for every word I write to be one more stitch on a wound, pulling together separated sides and helping to heal a jagged wound.
I cut my teeth on writing by diving into undergraduate research in Sociology and Sociolinguistics, focused primarily on adolescent relationships. After graduating from George Mason University with a dual B.A. in English Linguistics and Foreign Language, I retired from scholarly publishing. Leaving academia for a dreamy 9-5 in tech sales, I pivoted to fiction writing, where I can capture my simultaneous love and critique for the South.
Currently, I reside in Raleigh, North Carolina with my wife and the wild bunnies who let me hand-feed them plums. When not writing, I’m enjoying imported video games and perfecting my homemade pumpkin spice latte.
